SMS Short Code
An SMS short code is a short phone number, typically five or six digits, used to send and receive high volumes of SMS messages. Short codes are commonly used for notifications, alerts, verification messages, and two-way customer interactions.
In Digital Settings, SMS short codes define:
-
The short number the system uses for outbound SMS messages
-
How incoming SMS responses are received and processed
Each SMS interaction is unique based on the combination of:
-
Short code
-
Recipient phone number
If an active messaging session exists for a specific short code and phone number combination, the system does not send another SMS using the same short code, even when triggered from a different campaign. In this case, the system selects another mapped short code, if available, to continue message delivery without interruption.
If short code 12345 is already used to send an SMS to a customer’s phone number and the session remains active:
-
The system does not reuse 12345 for that phone number
-
The system selects another configured short code, if available, to send the message
Follow these steps to configure an SMS Short Code:
-
In the Name field, enter a unique name for the SMS short code configuration.
-
In the Short code field, enter the short numeric code used to send SMS messages. This defines the sender short code for outbound SMS communication.
-
In the Data code field, enter the identifier associated with the short code.
-
Turn on Use as short code. This identifies the value as a short code instead of a regular phone number.
-

-
