Area Code

The Area codes section manages area codes with their associated state and time zone. This helps the system determine a contact’s location and apply calling restrictions, blocking rules, and compliance settings for that area.

The Lookup page shows the following information:

Fields Description
Area code Shows the numeric area code used to identify a specific geographic region.
Time zone Shows the time zone mapped to the area code. The system uses this time zone to calculate the local time for applying calling and messaging restrictions.
State Shows the state associated with the area code. This helps apply state-level compliance rules.
Block status Indicates whether the area code is blocked or unblocked for contact.
Start date and time Shows the date and time when the block status starts for the record.

Create an Area Code

Follow these steps to create an Area Code:

  1. Enter a value in the Area code field.

Note: This cannot be changed after it is saved.

  2. In the Time zone field, select a time zone from the dropdown list. The system uses this time zone to determine the correct local time for contacts associated with this area code.

  3. In the State field, select a state from the dropdown list. This associates the area code with a state and allows the system to apply state-level compliance rules.

  4. Select the Block area code checkbox to restrict contacting for this area code. When selected, the system blocks communications to contacts in this area code.

Note: Area code or postal code blocking applies only when Block area or postal code is on under Campaign Segment → Configuration → Other configuration. When this setting is off, the system does not check block or unblock rules during dialing.

  5. Select the Start Date & Time and End Date & Time to define the period during which the area code is blocked or unblocked.

  6. Click Create to save the area code.

Bulk Upload

The Bulk upload option lets you add multiple area codes at one time by using a file. This helps reduce manual effort when managing a large number of area codes and ensures consistent mapping of area codes to their states and time zones.

To perform a bulk upload:

  1. On the Area codes page, click Bulk upload.

  2. In the File upload section, drag and drop the file, or click Browse to upload to select a file. The file must be a pipe-separated text file.

  3. In the Field mapping section, select the column for Area code from the dropdown list. This maps the area code values from the file to the system.

  4. Select the column for Time zone from the dropdown list. This maps the time zone associated with each area code.

Important: When uploading a Time Zone in a file, the value must match one of the time zones configured under Environment → Time Zones. Only time zones defined in the managed environment are accepted.

  5. Select the column for State from the dropdown list. This links each area code to an existing state in the system.

  6. Click Upload. The system processes the file and creates the area codes.
